Time: All Day

Category: Hike

This trip combines a full traverse of all the Amigos in the Sooke Hills with Mt Braden via the east plateau. We will travel by some of the rich wildflower fields on the eastern-most Amigos. Then over the Canada Day Trail to join the route up to the east Braden plateau. This flower-filled route has produced some rarities over the years, so is well worth a look. We will travel over to Braden summit and find a route down to the south. From here we will go back to the parking lot on the Veitch Creek Trail (aka the Veitch Carriageway).

The hike is approximately 11km long with >850m elevation gain. The route has lots of ups-and-downs – some of them steep, some scrambles, and a few places where hands on rock may be needed. There will be some bushwhacking and route-finding. There will be time for flower photography, especially in meadows and seeps, but otherwise we will move at a moderate pace. Expect to be out for the day.

This hike will go rain or shine, but if the weather is particularly bad we will adjust the route accordingly for a safe, comfortable, fun (and wildflower)-filled day.

Required gear: hiking boots with good ankle support, extra layers, rain gear, sun hat, water/hot drink, lunch, snacks, 10 essentials. Hiking poles are strongly recommended.

Meet at the Sooke Hills Wilderness Regional Park South Trailhead parking lot at 8:30am.  (Location on Google Maps). Carpooling is encouraged.

No dogs please.
