Description: Maple Mtn. Municipal Forest in the Cowichan valley has been reopened after a forest fire was contained on the NE slopes earlier this summer. Now that the fall rains have returned, it is time to revisit the scenic S slopes and Garry oak meadows of this magnificent hill. Trails on Maple Mtn. are color coded (blue, yellow, pink, orange and red). We will ascend to the summit and return via some combination of the pink, orange and red trails (or others known to the trip leader); expect a full day with an excess of 500 m elevation gain (and loss).
Skills Needed: Patience going uphill or downhill wherever broom, slippery arbutus leaves and/or your erstwhile trip leader are encountered.
Gear Needed: Boots, Water, Food (i.e. lunch), Poles (if needed).
