Date: Jul 01, 2022 to Jul 03, 2022

Time: All Day

Category: Hike

Details: Overnight trip to the peaks west of the Elk River Trail: Wolf Mountain, Puzzle Mountain, and Volcano Peak. Participants should be fit, comfortable unroped on steep snow, and have solid ice axe self-arrest skills.

The first day will be the bushwhack up from Crest Creek Crags to Wolf Mountain, and hopefully over Puzzle Mountain to find somewhere to camp. Day two will be the descent down to Volcano Lake and then up Volcano Peak, and we will probably have time to do the loop around the lake and get a nice close view of Mount Colonel Foster. Day three will be the shortest day for hiking out the same way we came in.

Equipment: Boots, gaiters, ice axe, helmet, crampons, an overnight pack with The Ten Essentials and everything needed for probably camping on snow.

Rating: This trip is rated as C2:

    • C: Strenuous, 10 hour days, 1500m+ elevation gain on first day, overnight pack
    • 2: Some steep bush and snow in mountainous terrain
