Via Alpina Switzerland hiking

Presenters: Rachel Treloar, Yvonne Blum, Peggy & Roger Taylor and Christine Baghdassarian

Ever wanted to see the Swiss Alps?  I sure did – it has been on my bucket list for most of my life!!  So when Rachel Treloar asked if Roger and I were interested in participating in a 14 day hiking trip to cover two thirds of the famous Via Alpina mountain hike, we lept at the opportunity.  Flying in and out of Zurich, our trip started in Weisstannen and ended in Kandersteg (234 km), taking in 12 of the 20 stages of this route.  It is a different experience from hiking in the BC wilderness with high mountain dairies and restaurants, cows almost everywhere, profuse flower meadows filled with colour and variety, beautiful Swiss alpine homes set amongst some of the most iconic mountains on the globe and scenic buses, trains, cog trains, gondolas and cable cars that run with Swiss precision and are built in the most amazing places.  For a neophyte European traveller I was blown away!!

Please join us to see some of the spectacular views and hear some of our stories from this challenging and amazing journey.

Swan Lake Nature House doors open 7:00pm for half an hour of chatting with friends & newcomers.  Coffee, tea & snacks by donation before the 7:30 announcements and then the Switzerland presentation.
