Category: Hike

Total day km: about 20 km

Overview:

Two hikes in one! Please be aware that this is an ALL-DAY adventure so please do not sign up if you need to be home at a certain time. Anyone signing up is committing to the entire event.

We will meet at the Langford Park and Ride lot at 8:15am for an 8:30am departure. We will drive to Cowichan Valley (~75 minutes) to hike up Bald Mountain (~4.5 hours) and then drive to Robertson River Falls (~30 minutes) and hike to the Falls and back (~3 hours). Then we’ll drive to the Craig Street Pub in Duncan for dinner. After dinner, we’ll return to Victoria.

THIS EVENT IS WEATHER DEPENDENT; PLEASE CHECK EMAIL BEFORE HEADING OUT SUNDAY MORNING

Details:
Bald Mountain is approximately 11km with almost 500 metres of elevation gain. Robertson River Falls is approximately 8km of walking on an old logging road so mostly flat with a bit of elevation gain as we get closer to the Falls. Once we are at the Falls, there are some steep, slippery sections, and several steep, challenging rope sections to make our way to the bottom of the Falls. Highly recommend that you bring gloves for this section.

The overall plan is:

  • meet at the Park and Ride at 8:15am; sign waivers and sort out car pool; depart at 8:30am
  • drive to Bald Mountain parking lot, ~9:45am arrival
  • hike up and down Bald Mountain, have lunch at the summer; return by 2:30pm
  • drive to Robertson River Falls parking lot, arrive no later than 3:15pm
  • hike to the Falls (8km, mostly old logging road but some steep, slippery sections and some rope sections once we arrive at the Falls)
  • return to cars by 6:00-6:15pm
  • drive to the pub/restaurant for dinner https://www.csbrewery.ca/craigstreetbrewpub
  • drive back to the Park and Ride by ~8:30pm
  • all times are approximate and will vary based on the overall speed of the group
  • pace will be moderate on the hills and moderate-fast on the flats

WEATHER-PERMITTING: Check email for any weather-related cancellations before 8am Sunday

Hiking boots with good ankle support and good tread are necessary for this hike. Hiking poles are recommended. Bring water, snacks, lunch and money for car pool and for dinner. Especially important at this time of year is rain gear, gloves, an extra layer of clothing, and a headlamp or flashlight.
