Thursday December 12, 6:00pm – 9:00:   Annual Photo Contest and Holiday Social at Swan Lake Nature House, Victoria, BC.

This year we are joining two fun events together – the annual photo competition and our holiday social.  The photo competition is the signature photo show of the season! So start thinking about your favourite mountain shots from 2024 – let’s celebrate how we spent our mountain time this past year. And speaking of celebrations, this December we want to  team our holiday social with the photo show. We get to mingle with friends, ooh and aww over gorgeous photos, put our judgy-pants on, nosh on a few treats, give out a few prizes, and get ready to usher in the holiday season – what’s not to like!

Comments, ideas, want to help out (it’s fun!) – contact Mary Sanseverino, photo show coordinator:

FILE NAMING – THIS IS IMPORTANT!
Category abbreviation-yourname-caption
For example, Phee Hudson’s entry in Mountain Scenery (MS) would be labelled:
MS-PheeHudson-Arrowsmith at dawn
Please no commas, @, * and especially no periods in the file name.
For instance, Mt. Cain should be “MtCain” or “Mt_Cain”

IMAGE SIZE:
Be aware that some email programs shrink photos when sending them, so the quality is much reduced. If you are not sure what your email program does, send a test file to yourself to make sure you are getting the full size.
To display effectively in the competition each image file should, at minimum, be within these 2 ranges:
Between 1280 x 1024 and 2048 x 1536 (4:3 ratio)
OR
Between 1920 x 1080 and 2048 x 1152 (16:9 ratio)

But don’t worry too much about this, especially if you are sending from your phone – just send the original size photo when prompted.

Photographers sending files from their desktop – don’t worry overly about file size. If you have something really huge (bigger than 25 MB) drop me a line
(
) and we’ll get it sorted.

DRONE SHOTS:
If you submit a drone image could you please indicate in the email where, approximately, you flew. Drone images are accepted, but not if the drone was flown in a drone-restricted area without a specific permit. If you did fly in a restricted area (e.g. a BC Provincial Park, a National Park), then please include a copy of your specific permit.

HELP/QUESTIONS:
Don’t hesitate to reach out to me (Mary Sanseverino – ) with questions/comments. I’m here to help you get those photos prepped and ready for the show!

We will be hosting a remote link via Zoom too, so remember to mark the date – even if you can’t be here in person (although we would love to see you In Real Life – or IRL as the hip kids say).
