Founded in 1912, the Vancouver Island section of the Alpine Club of Canada offers a wide range of mountain-related activities. We organize everything from local hikes to challenging climbs in the Vancouver Island mountains, Pacific Coast Ranges, Rocky Mountains and beyond.

We also put on summer hiking and climbing camps as well as winter ski/snowshoe camps. We offer a number of subsidized mountain education courses and workshops including ice axe handling, crevasse rescue, avalanche safety, and introductory mountaineering.

We have a monthly mail-out to membership ‘High Points’, which details upcoming events. At the start of each season – early March, June, September and December – we distribute our extensive newsletter, the Island Bushwhacker. We put on monthly social events with slideshow presentations on mountain-related topics.

You don’t have to be an experienced climber to join the club.  All that’s really required is a love of the mountains. If the mountains are an important part of your life, or you would like them to be, there’s a place in the club for you!
