5040 Peak Biodiversity Blitz

Tuesday 29 – Thursday to 31, July 2025

Based at Hišimy̓awiƛ, this is a 3 day project to gather a biodiversity snap-shot of the 5040 Peak environs using iNaturalist. We hope to include the area around Cobalt Lake, the plateau around the hut and above. This is the second year in a row for this project and in 2025 we want to pay particular attention to the limestone area to the east of the 5040 Peak col.

This year we were given an ACC Environment Fund grant for the project, so some costs are covered, but commitment on the part of team members to photographing flora and fauna on and around 5040 and (potentially) some work with the photos afterwards will be required.

Not an expert naturalist yourself – don’t let that stop you from joining in! We have project team members who can help with ID-ing birds, bugs, plants, flowers, etc. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and being comfortable off-trail in the alpine are the assets we are looking for.
