Type: Winter Mountaineering (B3)
Objective: Cokely or Arrowsmith (depending on conditions)
Meeting location: Plan to meet at the Cameron Main gate on Highway 4 at 8am. Or options to car pool from Victoria or the south island.
Description
The plan is to shake out the winter mountaineering skills and enjoy some (hopefully) good weather in the mountains.
Depending on conditions three route options:
A – Arrowsmith by Bruggers gully (if in condition) – descending by rappelling the nose (if conditions allow). (Rope would be provided)
B – Arrowsmith by Bruggers gully (if in condition) – descending by the judges route.
C – Cokely Via the Saddle and North Bowl.
Objectives to be discussed by the group and modified based on conditions at the trail head. Current conditions are variable.
Space for 3 people in the 4×4 to access the trail head if necessary.
Skill Level: AST 1, winter skills (snow travel with ice axes and crampons – on moderate to steep terrain), potential for rappelling.
Equipment Requirements: Crampons, Ice Axe, climbing harness, Avalanche safety gear.
