Description:
Weather forecast calls for fresh snow in the Sooke Hills making this a perfect time to check out some of the old haunts and see how they look with a dusting of snow. This route begins at the Sooke Hills Wilderness parking lot (https://goo.gl/maps/qwta26Uo24z6MJ53A) and will start off by covering all of the Amigos (Alan, Tony, David, Lisa’s Ledge, Charlie’s Crest) and dropping down to the north end of the Amigos Carriageway. Then we’ll head up Braden and at the top decide whether to come down Route 66 (aka Braden West) or take one of the other routes off the hill.

This route is perfect for a day when weather might cause problems – there are plenty of options to cut short or alter the route. So, unless the roads are closed or conditions are beyond the bounds of common sense, this trip will go regardless of weather.

Pack the 10 essentials, clothes for changing South Island winter weather, good boots, lunch, and a warm drink. Poles are recommended. Micro-spikes / cleats might be nice to have in the pack.

Moderate pace while hiking, stops for elevenses, lunch, boulder preening, and tree climbing
Expect a small amount of bushwhacking, some route-finding – especially if there is snow, and a minor amount of scrambling.
