Category: Glacier Mountaineering
Description: Attempt ascent of Mount Baker via Heliotrope Ridge Trail. Leave Victoria first ferry, camp at base of glacier. Acclimatization on day 2, including practice of rope travel, ice axe self-arrest. Leave camp 2am on day 3, return by noon. Keep 4th day open for a weather window delay. Looking for two rope leaders. IAG course being arranged for May 15-16, 2027, a two-day version of the Snow and Glacier Skills Course at Mount Cain, with discounted cost of $313.88.
Equipment: Mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe, harness, personal climbing gear, mountaineering clothing. Leaders will provide ropes and rescue gear.
Trip requirements: Excellent endurance fitness (example: ability to run half marathon). Snow and glacier skills (can be derived from IAG course). ACC membership required.
Maximum participants: 15.
