Shepherd / Flower Ridge Traverse (C2)

Friday, 23 Jun 2017 07:00 – Sunday, 25 Jun 2017 18:00

An Island classic!

At 07:00 on Friday we begin the long and hard ascent of Shepherd Ridge,
carrying full packs with 2000+ m of total elevation gain. Saturday
continues the up and down pattern, and finally Sunday is a long but
steady descent down Flower Ridge. Expect steep snow travel, exposed
third class scrambling, and views of some of the best parts of
Strathcona Park. Exact camping locations and length of days will depend
on the speed of the group.

This trip is ideal for people who are new to mountaineering and who want
to practice their skills. This trip is not ideal for anyone not in good
physical condition. It is a demanding route with many bumps to climb and
descend, and we will be doing long days with heavy packs.

Gear: crampons, ice axe, helmet.
Skills: steep snow travel, ice axe self-arrest, exposed unroped scrambling.
