Description: Come join us for an ascent of Mount Arrowsmith, via the West Ridge, a “Top 40” route in Island Alpine Select! We will start on the Arrowsmith Climber’s Trail, route find through a small section of open forest to the toe of the west ridge then a scramble up excellent rock, interspersed with bushy sections followed by a traverse over to the Judge’s Route about 100m below the main summit. We will descend by rappelling the Nose, which has two bolted rappel stations, followed by a snow descent down the North Cirque to connect again with the Climber’s Trail. It is estimated this trip will take about 10 hours from car to car.

Participants: 5 maximum

Skills needed: Comfort scrambling in 4th class terrain with a bit of bushwhacking, self-arresting with an ice axe, and comfort with rappelling.

Gear needed: Ice axe, boots, harness, rappel/belay device, rappel back-up, personal safety (sling, PAS or equivalent), corresponding locking biners and a helmet. If you are considering renting gear from the Club you need to contact before June 2 as the gear manager will be away from June 2 to July 4.
